RE: What could be better about your Motorhome??

We don't have a Cls A yet, but I totally agree with Cathy on the Entry. I'd rather have a side entry coach than one in the front. Our 5er has had multiple changes of furniture. Not so easy to do with most MH doorways. Just thinking about dragging items into or out of the coach is one of the reasons we haven't wanted to switch. We've also switched out our faucets, shower head and even the toilet seat with residential ones. So it would be nice to have those items preinstalled vs having to redo later.

RE: Primer on mail forwarding options for a newbie

I just found out something today that might help you. I just started full time and rather than be rushed into making decisions about the domicle issue/insurance/plates etc. I wanted to keep my old address for a year.... What I did was get a po box in my town. I am going to pay for one of the mail forwardings service's the full timers use(I was told anyone can use their forwarding service without registering in that state). So my mail will be forwarded from the p.o. box in the state everything is registered in, to the forwarding service and then you just call them and they send your mail to whatever town you are traveling in.:B Whew! That's exactly why we started with a UPS Store to take care of our mail. We weren't sure if we'd be doing this a year or two or three or ten. Since everything is still working out for us living and working on the road, we haven't changed from our original UPS Store address. I would rather keep it simple as possible.

RE: Shifting in and out of Neutral to save gas with Sprinter...

I tell you what, that list of ways to save and increase your mileage was written by a frickin genius. The first thing on the list is to walk. It lists such brilliant ideas as move closer to your destination ... I didn't write the list, just wanted to share a few ideas without getting wordy in my post. Funny you picked two that we do. I walk in the RVP since I have no vehicle. We always find an RVP as close to jobsite as possible. :B

RE: No Rant, No Rave, Just FACTS

Summer of 1971: we paid 25 cents a gallon on base in So CA. We had a 1971 VW Super Beetle with $65 a mo car payments. Sunday drives to the Mall to Window Shop was all we could afford. Would I want to turn back the clock, No Thank YOU, I like the F450 better. It doesn't chug up the mountains even pulling the 5er!

RE: HH CKRSB or Select Suites 34RLSB3

Susan: DT does have a 32TK3 that is under 34' on the Mobile line. You just don't have the Side Bath. We went from an enclosed bath in our Open Road to the open Suite bath version and find we like DT's better. RE: Meaning of Acronym

I don't really see what's so offensive...She accidently replied and forwarded. Sounds like she is trying to get you an answer so you don't show up on a day when there are no tours. I'm sure people who have driven from "BFE" get upset when they are told "Sorry, no tours today. We're having a shutdown for maintenance!" Plus, I wouldn't want to give a tour on a hoilday either!!! I didn't find it offensive to me. I knew she wasn't talking about Moi. I did have to resend to get my question answered. Then the response is confusing! Maybe that's why people get "honked" at them when they tell them No Tours after they've driven all the way from Egypt. FROM THEIR WEBSITE: "Tour Dates March 3 through October 31 every Monday - Friday No plant tours April 7-11 2008 or June 9-13 2008" 2nd EMAILED RESPONSE: "Actually we won't be giving tours this week or next as it is our yearly summer vacation shutdown for model change over. There is no production going on during those 2 weeks. However, the standard tour time is 9:30 AM, and if you come in, the tour guide can give you a mini tour, but you will not see actual production. Children are welcome. XXXXXXXX Customer Relations"

RE: Shifting in and out of Neutral to save gas with Sprinter...

I just heard about this returning on yesterday's news programs. Coasting to a stop in Neutral in an Automatic transmission is dangerous since most people can't think/move fast enough to put it back in gear if they had to accelerate quickly. Unsafe Popular Mechanics There are easier and safer ways to increase your mileage...How to Save.

RE: Filing Taxes While Work-Camping

If you workcamp in lets say 3 states during the year, do you have to file and pay taxes in all 3 states? We don't workamp, but do work on the road. We file our taxes electronically online without any problems. Refunds or debits go into or out of our Bank acct. Usually we file in 3 states every year. This year so far will be VA, WV and AL. Last year was VA, MD and GA. Can't wait to get sent back to FL so we don't have to pay state income tax. :B

RE: COST of new 5er

I've heard different #'s, but 25% off MSRP is a good number to start or end with.

RE: West Virginia

In a few weeks, we are towing from Coolville, OH (across the river from Vienna, WV) to AL. The Ford GPS route is telling us to take some of the back roads along the Ohio River through KY down into Nashville. I'm a little leary as we drove part of it a couple of weeks ago to test the first part of the route. It was only 2 lanes and rather confusing which way it wanted us to go next. I prefer my own variation of going across the new Blennerhasset bridge on Hwy 50 into Parkersburg, then drive I-77 to Charleston to I-64W. I want to avoid the tolls/tunnels we traveled through w/o the 5er in May down to Atlanta. So far can't quite convince DH that's the better route. I still have time to research and figure it out.

RE: Southern Oregon, 3 kids, and a class C rental

I just want to tell you to have fun. Our 7 1/2 yo GD is having a ball spending the summer with us. Every weekend there are "new friends" to play with. Get yourself some walkie-talkies. I've found them to be the BEST electronic gadget we need with her.

RE: Meaning of Acronym

I think I would forward her e-mail back to her. If I don't hear something tomorrow, I probably will reply with her message attached. I'd really like to plan on which Factory Tour we want to go on. One is scheduled on Tues, but still have Monday open.

Meaning of Acronym

I emailed an RV factory letting them know what day we'd be in their area and would like to take a Tour. I had a question regarding taking our 7 yo GD. I didn't get a direct answer to my question yet, but she accidently sent me her forwarded email to another department. I had to Google BFE to see where these "people" who had the nerve to get "honked off" were from. I only knew the shorter version minus the E. Thought I would share the information so all of you can make every RV Factory workers life a little easier by noting they don't give tours on Holiday's. :S UNEDITED EMAIL: "I think I will start forwarding these e-mails regarding tours to you to answer rather than answering them myself since your won't be up here as much and I may not know a particular day that we aren't having tours. I don't know if you are doing tours during shut-down or not. I usually tell them the hours of the tour, where it starts, wear comfortable walking shoes, etc. When ever the question is open w/out a date in particular, I usually say something like "we have daily tours Monday thru Friday @ 9:30 AM w/the exception of the week of June 8th, Labor Day, etc. as I know people get really honked off if they drive from BFE somewhere thinking there is a tour, and there isn't. For some reason people think we give tours on holidays.....never have figured that one out. XXXX (name changed to protect her identity)"

RE: HH CKRSB or Select Suites 34RLSB3

I don't know why DT doesn't include their specs of weight and length anymore on their website. The brochure download doesn't even include them. We have a 2008 brochure that has the info on a separate sheet. Model: 34RLSB3 Length: 35' 11" Width: 101" Height: 12' 8" Dry Wt: 11,660 # Dry Pin Wt: 2,775 # GVWR: 17,000 # Axle sz: 7,000 # Holding tanks: Fresh 70 Gray 50 Black 50 WH capc. 12 Furnace sz: 42,000 BTU Insulation: Floor: R27, Roof R23, Walls R13 If they have any new specs sheets for 2009, will be picking one up next week in Indiana.

RE: Toaster Oven

That's my favorite appliance besides the microwave/convection oven. You just have to watch the temps as sometimes the tops can burn on your biscuits or rolls.

RE: Why SOOOOO Many Sex Offenders In Sioux Falls???

Susan, Some of the offenses date back to 1991. I've reviewed the site in the past, because we have our GD with us every summer. But it hasn't made any difference as to where we park the RV. I am home all day in the RVP while DH goes to work. I am cautious, always keep the RV locked especially if I'm out walking. But I'm never frightened of being alone. I keep my cell phone on and always have the RVP owner/manager's # as well as DH ready to call in event of an emergency. Best thing is most RVP's have Sheriff's cars cruising through periodically. Even those that have gates with passkeys. Some officers may even live in the RVP's. Can't feel any safer with that!

RE: running a/c in warm humid weather question

We also always keep our vents shut and skylights covered so the 2 AC's can do their job. But I've started running a table fan to keep air circulating in any room we're occupying, so I can set the AC temps a little higher as the heat outside increases and keeps AC's running more frequently. When we had our Open Road, the one 15k AC would freeze up. Suggestion from dealer was to run the Fan on HI rather than AUTO. That meant the fan was on all the time, not just when AC kicked on. It wouldn't keep us much cooler, but did prevent freezeups. We haven't experienced that problem with our Suite.

RE: Whos Ready for the 4th

Originally, we were going to stay "home". But have decided this might be our best chance to head up to DoubleTree factory and check out what's new for 2009 models. Safe Travels to all this coming weekend.

RE: Non-retired full timers

We don't mind not being able to travel all over the US yet. Simplifying and slowing down is easy to do in an RV. We are confined to one spot for 3-4 mos and we've spent more time at the Mall on this trip than normal. But only because it's right across from the Project and has the Movie Theater inside. Oh and needed to replace some clothing. This trip seemed to go by much faster than usual. We're out of here in less than a month!
